Today I discovered 'Snapshot'an iphone only app that aims to make ‘sexting’ safer. ( If you're not familiar with the term 'sexting' it is the act of sending sexually explicit messages or photographs, primarily between mobile phones)
I am always the first to admit that 'technology is not my thing' so this may not be new news! However, I thought it was worth sharing....
The 'Snapshot' app allows the sender to set a time limit on images sent before they are deleted. It will also tell you if the recipient has tried to take a screen grab. Sounds pretty good to me, as young people LOVE to share, but don't always consider the consequences.
What 'Snapshot' won’t do is stop or inform a sender if someone takes a picture of the phone whilst it is displaying the image, so it's not completely safe, however, it is a move in the right direction.
At the moment I believe that this is only available on Iphone, although increasing numbers of young people seem to have their own Iphone or Ipad now, but I'm certain android won't be too far behind!
What do you think? Does it encourage young people to consider what they are sharing, or make them even more 'share happy'?
